Miss Merry remembers

On the local Facebook site, a former village resident posted that she was clearing out her late mother's effects and found some handwritten memories from a Miss Merry, which she photographed and added to the site.

One of the stories was about a little girl, Gill Broome, who fell in love with a donkey on a trip to Skegness and persuaded her father to bring it home to be cared for in Cottesmore for the winter. Said donkey was put into the paddock behind the Sun Inn, but decided he would rather explore, and Gill's father spent a lot of time that winter rounding it up. Apparently it also kept a lot of people awake by braying in the night. I suspect the donkey never came back to Cottesmore. As a result of this article another former resident then posted a photo of the donkey with its temporary owner. Does anyone else remember it?
